I kind of ran over a deer on the Interstate while driving up to Chicago. Me an my friend’s family were driving. Her husband had some of her kids and two of my kids in their vehicle driving in front of me. I had his wife and one of their kids and one of my kids in my car. I saw the deer going to hit their car. We were in the passing lane and a semi was on the side of us. I just thought that I was going to watch my kids and my friend’s family get into into a nasty accident, it was good size doe. Then I saw the doe turn back to the median and I was relieved, until she made a last minute decision to turn to my car.
I drive a baby Hyundai Accent. I screamed OH SHIT as I ran over the doe. The left side of my car was airborne. I had no clue what to expect. My car slammed on the ground and shook everyone in the car awake. The adrenaline was pumping and I was in shock that my car was still driving down the interstate. I pulled to the side to check out the damage. It looked minimal. My car was still drivable. The lights even worked. It was 3 am in the morning, so with the car running and everyone ok I decided to keep heading to Chicago.
I dealt with a not so with it insurance agent the next day and he didn’t realize that my car was possibly not going to make it back to Memphis, thankfully it did.
The shop called after getting it and called me asking how I did that much damage to the car from a deer? (they were also shocked it ran, let alone that I drove it back from Chicago) I explained I ran over a deer. They said, you must, you have all kinds of damage, most people only run into deer. She told me she’d get my car up and tell me more about it later. The next day she calls back and tells me she can see where the deer entered and exited the undercarriage of the car, because there were still pieces of the deer left.
I’m just glad no one was hurt.
